Recession Is Driving America’s Demand For Abortion

So says Bonnie Erbe, contributing editor at U.S. News & World Report and host of PBS’s weekly new analysis program, To the Contrary with Bonnie Erbe.

In her April blog, Erbe rants, “…The recession is driving American demand for contraception. And for abortions. The media have been rife this past week with stories about the rising number of couples and single mothers doing the math and deciding this is no time to bring a child into the world—not when the economy is depressed, jobs are scarce, and family incomes are dropping.

The media have also been rife with stories portraying this trend as something of a tragedy. Let me propose a counter view: It is not.

The Associated Press ran a story on March 25 that read as follows:

"The pregnant woman showed up at the medical centre in flip-flops and in tears, after walking there to save bus fare. Her boyfriend had lost his job, she told her doctor in Oakland, Calif., and now—fearing harder times for her family—she wanted to abort what would have been her fourth child.

"This was a desired pregnancy—she'd been getting prenatal care—but they re-evaluated expenses and decided not to continue," said Dr. Pratima Gupta. "When I was doing the options counseling, she interrupted me halfway through, crying, and said, 'Dr. Gupta, I just walked here for an hour. I'm sure of my decision….'"

Isn’t this the same woman who, in 1995, compared partial birth abortions to the "production of veal." Ms. Erbe stated on the November 3, 1995, PBS's To the Contrary:

“…But aren't most medical procedures, when you describe them in detail, pretty disgusting? Isn't, for example, the production of veal, when you describe it in detail, and how people eat meat, when they crunch down on the flesh of living beings, formerly living beings with their teeth. Isn't that pretty gruesome, too?...

There used to be a time in history when right was right and wrong was wrong regardless of circumstances. When did society become numb? When did fighting for human life become irrelevant? When did we choose to fire God? As “learned” as we are, we have become a deceived and valueless society.

How a child’s life has become irrelevant in a bad economy is beyond me… A civilization without God will perish; just take a look back in history.

What, No G5s?

While Madam Speaker is thinking about creating another stimu-lie for us, her selfishness, oops, I mean her unselfish spirit amazes me. For instance, according to Judicial Watch, Ms. Pelosi, repeatedly makes demands on the military to personally shuttle her and her family... at our expense, not hers. Now honestly, while many of us are loosing our shirts, doesn't it "feel good" that we are working hard to keep Congress living the life that they're accustomed to? Anyway, read on:

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly requested military aircraft to shuttle her and her colleagues and family around the country, according to a new report from a conservative watchdog group.

Representatives for Judicial Watch, which obtained e-mails and other documents from a Freedom of Information request, said the correspondence shows Pelosi has abused the system in place to accommodate congressional leaders and treated the Air Force as her "personal airline."

Pelosi's office disputed the claim, pointing to White House policy enacted after the Sept. 11 attacks allowing for the House speaker to travel to his or her congressional district via military aircraft whenever possible for security reasons. Her office said she typically uses the same kind of aircraft used by her predecessor, Dennis Hastert.

But Judicial Watch said that Pelosi was notorious for making special demands for high-end aircraft, lodging last-minute cancellations and racking up additional expenses for the military.

The e-mails showed repeated attempts by Pelosi aides to request aircraft, sometimes aggressively, and by Department of Defense officials to accommodate them.

"I think that's above and beyond what other members of Congress are doing and what is expected of our elected officials," said Jenny Small, a researcher with the group.

In one e-mail, aide Kay King complained to the military that they had not made available any aircraft the House speaker wanted for Memorial Day recess. "It is my understanding there are NO G5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable ... The Speaker will want to know where the planes are," King wrote….” Read More

Contact Your Senators in Opposition to the Senate "Stimulus" Package Today

Please tell your elected officials to oppose the $825 billion 'American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009', commonly known as the stimulus bill, now making its way through Congress. This legislation is packed with pork, supports groups such as ACORN and will increase the national deficit to more than $2 trillion dollars which future generations will have to repay.

We must stop it in the Senate.

The Heritage Foundation has listed several top disastrous highlights:

1. Medicaid bailout - $87 billion for states
2. Medicaid expansion - expands eligibility to anyone whose income is less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Line
3. Family Planning Loophole - This section undercuts parental authority, increases control over taxpayer dollars by family planning clinics, and expands exactly who is eligible to receive the benefits.
4. Education Bailout - $79 billion added to education, none of which may be used for school choice.
5. Education Shopping Spree - additional billions for various areas of education which will bring the total spent in this are to over $142 billion.

• $200 million to rehabilitate the National Mall

This so-called stimulus will come from borrowed funds - funds that must be repaid by future generations of hard working Americans.

Pelosi Looses Her Mind… Again

ET Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi boldly defended a move to add birth control funding to the new economic "stimulus" package, claiming "contraception will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government."

Pelosi, the mother of 5 children and 6 grandchildren, who once said, "Nothing in my life will ever, ever compare to being a mom," seemed to imply babies are somehow a burden on the treasury. The revelation came during an exchange Sunday morning on ABC’s This Week.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?

PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?

PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.

Firstly, as a fellow Catholic, I am surprised that you would suggest something that is against our Church teachings… but, then again, Nanc, excuse me, I mean, Madam Speaker, this isn’t the first time you’ve openly rebelled against the church…

But, apart from your basic arrogance, Madam Speaker, where have your basic maternal skills gone? Are we to really take you seriously?

2009: A Year of Renewal and Change

For many of us, the beginning of a New Year means a list of resolutions that focus on change and renewal. This year especially, most are worried and tired with the uncertainty of what tomorrow brings. As a mother of a young child, I, too, worry about the future and what our children shall be inheriting.

With an abundance of foreclosures, lay-offs and business shut downs many of us are wagging our tails simply to live paycheck to paycheck. As yet another family is given a pink slip, we are lost at what the next step for survival is to be. But today, the first day of the New Year, I ask all Christians to stop and meditate on our Lord Jesus who is our only true answer for peace and freedom.

Most of us are running, working and gathering without blessing. America, on the whole, has compromised her values and is rapidly spiraling downward with most clinging on empty promises for hope and change.

Today I beseech all of us who profess to be followers of our Lord to recommit to the living Jesus and comprehend that, without Him, we have no future. In order to save ourselves as well as our America, we must sincerely surrender our lives into the hands of Jesus in order for Him to lead us and protect us from every adversity and evil.

As true followers of the King, we must not limit ourselves nor limit God! He sees His children as precious and unique. He rejoices over us and wants the best for us in all things. He is determined to stand up for each and every one of us and intervene in our lives but we cannot compromise our beliefs for the short-term solutions offered by the world.

Perhaps today, as a new year begins, we can take some time to recall all the ways God has blessed us in the past and then tell Him that you want to receive His gifts this year as well.

No matter what we face this year, we must trust that only God can heal our broken America and give us His peace. We must believe that His face is always shining on all us. As challenges arise in our lives, when we humbly turn to Him, we will know His strength through His presence. God has an amazing year in store for us if we sincerely repent as a Nation and allow Him back into our lives! Let nothing block his flow of blessings to our land and in our lives.
